Complete Spring Newborn Layette Checklist 2026
Newborn Bodysuits (the most important item)
Bodysuits are the foundation of every outfit during the first months of life. They protect your baby’s delicate skin and help maintain a stable body temperature.
- 5–7 cotton bodysuits (mix of long and short sleeves)
- Preferably with wrap-style openings or snap buttons underneath
A small practical tip: having at least one extra bodysuit is always helpful, especially in the early days when changes can be frequent.
Sleepsuits and outfits
Sleepsuits are perfect for nighttime and rest time, while two-piece outfits allow more freedom of movement during the day. Alternating both options makes your layette more versatile.
Leggings and cardigans
- 2–3 leggings or soft trousers
- 2 lightweight cardigans or wrap tops
These items are essential for managing typical spring temperature changes. A light cardigan can easily be added during outings or removed indoors.
Essential accessories
- 2 cotton hats or caps
- 4–5 pairs of socks
- 1 mid-season blanket
- 1–2 bibs
Accessories, when chosen carefully, also contribute to your newborn’s comfort—especially in the first few days.
Sheets and bedding
Breathable cotton is ideal for a newborn’s sensitive skin. Having at least two sets makes it easy to manage changes while keeping the crib clean and comfortable.
